Another day

 Been crying a lot lately.

Maybe I'm feeling overwhelmed these days and felt that there's no one to talk to so before I explode, I'm taking the time to write to you instead.

Maybe it's also because I recently don't get quality sleep and has been trouble getting asleep.

I'll fix first what I can do to sleep early.

Android game: Bridge Game

 Android game: Bridge Game

This is another time consuming game if you don't have anything to do. You basically get the bricks of your color and make the bricks you collected into stairs. It is a competition on who gets to the finish line the fastest.

However, I was pissed off with the load of advertisements.

How Many Minutes will you wait for an egg to be cooked as hard-boiled in an Induction Cooker/Stove?

How Many Minutes will you wait for an egg to be cooked as hard-boiled in an Induction Cooker/Stove?

I was curious to know if Mr. Google is right. I found out in my search that it will take 8-10 minutes. And so I took a little experiment. I used an induction 18 cm Neoflam pot and set it out at 1500W Boil setting. With the last 3 minutes, I've lowered it to 800W Hotpot setting. And this is the result:

It is correct!

I've been feeling down lately and browsing through the clips in the Tiktok app eventually led me to this. I thought that she seemed familiar and I was right. She portrayed as the older sister in Tall Girl which I've watched in Netflix!

Why Should We Apply Floor Wax?

Why Should We Apply Floor Wax?

The floor and the wax

It has been decades since I'd last applied floor wax on a floor. Last was when I was in high school. Whenever I'd go to school, I was almost always the one opening the school. I was very much early since I travel 6 municipalities to get to school. Jeepneys are like buses in the province way back. We have to make sure that we ride the 5 am or we would be late. get there at school at around   would ride a jeepney that would came from a . It was creepy for a while then I would get bored and then since I had nothing to do, I would scrub the floor. Weird but I did. Hehe.

Anyway, why should we apply floor wax on the floor?

It's because we want to preserve the floor for having dents, scratches and for wood type, would waterproof somehow the floor. But of course not all floors are the same.

Worst experience with Kuya J's restaurant SM Sucat branch

Worst experience with Kuya J's restaurant SM Sucat branch

It was really at the spur of the moment when I asked my mother that we go to Kuya J's restaurant to eat their special halo-halo as I know she loves it and she got giddy right away. We went there after she bought a lock since she will be taking a vacation soon.

We were seated and then were given a menu. I planned to have their halo-halo dessert only priced at 125 pesos but then later decided to have a sharing plate of their palabok for 239 pesos. It took a while before they took our order since they were quite busy clearing out plates and utensils. Finally, after I got the attention of a staff, we ordered and he asked if the halo halo was to be served now/immediately. I agreed. The staff said that our order will take 15-30 minutes and it was okay with me.

While waiting for our food, I was scrolling in the internet through my phone about the restaurant reviews (I dunno why, but I did anyway). I found that there were bad feedbacks for the SM Sucat branch. What I did not know that it was the universe saying that we would also share the same fate as them today.

Anyway, after 30 minutes, the palabok was the only one served. I was a bit confused because the waiter offered to have it now and there's no halo halo. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt and was thinking that maybe halo halo's were served a bit later since it was just 2 pm. Maybe they were producing it by batches? And so we ate the palabok first and waited for the halo halo. We finished the plate and I was browsing through my phone and reading stuff when my mom informed me that halo halos were served to other tables which came after us. I tried to get the attention of the other staffs but I don't know if they are just SO that busy that they weren't paying attention. Other tables were served and I was starting to get pissed off. But for the sake of being in the same service industry, I try to understand because it's not easy. I asked a staff who was near our table that we would like to follow up with the halo halo and requested for 2 glasses of water. After 10 minutes, none came. So I asked again the staff who took our order who by the way was near our table at the time that we would like to follow up with the halo halo and glasses of water since we don't have any in the table. After some time, we were too stunned to speak that we were given the bill! I checked inside if maybe our order was just palabok and lo and behold, the halo halo was also billed! I tried again to get the attention for quite a time and finally a waitress had come to our table. My mother began ranting to the server that we don't have any halo halo. (It's not her fault Mom!) The waitress got the bill and replied that it is because we asked for the bill which we did not! I try to contain myself as she didn't have to blurt it out without checking the issue. We didn't get any apologies either. We finally got our halo halo at 3 pm. And the water after asking for it again.

Is it because we weren't ordering the menu platter like the other tables have that's why they aren't paying attention? We were not new customers at Kuya J's restaurant and definitely satisfied with the good service at SM BF branch but this is a whole new level. Service from the fast food chains were much more better than here.

We won't ever go in that branch again. Sorry not sorry.

A spontaneous trip to Quiapo featuring Globe's Lumpia House!

A spontaneous trip to Quiapo featuring Globe's Lumpia House!

Here's a story. Last Sunday, I had plans to just attend mass and go back home afterwards. But since my mom was saying that she was having dizzy spells consequently these past few days, I've decided to accompany her. She is scheduled to have her last booster shot for anti-rabies since she got bitten again by our own dog. She was trying to check if the dog has also eaten the antibiotic capsule in the liver and maybe the dog thought that she was going to take away the food so she got bitten. Again.

And so we went to the hospital in the afternoon. About 30 minutes of waiting outside the emergency room area and right after she'd finished her last shot, we've taken a UV express vehicle which was going to Quiapo. Aside with the intention to pick up her prescription glasses, we were supposed to go to Jolli Dada just beside the Quinta Market because I heard that it was a famous local eatery for their palabok and their halo halo and would like to try it out. We picked up her glasses first then we were on our way to Quinta market.

As we go along the way, we've purchased 1/4 kilogram of cooked peanuts for 50 pesos since my mother love to munch on these. We dropped by a native products stand located under the bridge where my mom purchased a 20 pesos stick which she says she can use to shoo away any animals that could harm our dog during their daily walks. We got inside the Quinta Market and asked where Jolli Dada was. We got there at 2 pm. Unfortunately, they were on a break and would resume at 3 pm. Aside from that, there were also a couple of people which was at least 10 persons which was a bit late for us because we will be also attending mass so we headed into Globe Lumpia's House instead which was near Raon. We were surprised that there was already a long queue and I've decided to be patient just to eat this again though I had my doubts. The last time I purchased the lumpia, I was disappointed because it was not really up to par with the taste that I used to have when it was still at 18 pesos. By the way, their lumpia costs around 30 pesos a piece now along with their Empanada which is also at 30 pesos. They are also selling brownies for 20 pesos and their special atchara at 80 pesos. The taste had improved but their lumpia wrapper is lousy. I hope they would be able to maintain the consistency because I've enjoyed their lumpia since I was still studying in college and it would be such a waste if their flavor had changed.

Using Gcredit

 Using Gcredit

I don't know about you but ever since that I've used  Gcredit twice already, my Gscore has downgraded from 518 to 468.

Thursday, March 10, 2022

So where could I use the Gcredit?

Apparently, when I want to try out using the Gcredit in waltermart the cashier said "Nagloloko po ang gcash Mam at sa counter A at B lang po siya pwede. And so I paid my groceries via debit card.

This time around I went to a Landmark department store and asked if they are accepting Gcredit. However, they don't but perhaps Gacsh is accepted since they have a sign that Gcash is accepted there. I paid my purchase via cash.

So the question is, where could I use my newly approved Gcredit?

Take away from Man's Search for Meaning

Take away from Man's Search for Meaning

To choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.

And there were always choices to make. Every day, every hour, offered the opportunity to make a decision, a decision which determined whether you would or would not submit to those powers which threatened to rob you of your very self, your inner freedom; which determined whether or not you would become the plaything of circumstance, renouncing freedom and dignity to become molded into the form of the typical inmate.

Fundamentally, therefore, any man can, even under such circumstances, decide what shall become of him—mentally and spiritually.

Dostoevski said once, “There is only one thing that I dread: not to be worthy of my sufferings.”

An active life serves the purpose of giving man the opportunity to realize values in creative work, while a passive life of enjoyment affords him the opportunity to obtain fulfillment in experiencing beauty, art, or nature. But there is also purpose in that life which is almost barren of both creation and enjoyment and which admits of but one possibility of high moral behavior: namely, in man’s attitude to his existence, an existence restricted by external forces. A creative life and a life of enjoyment are banned to him. But not only creativeness and enjoyment are meaningful. If there is a meaning in life at all, then there must be a meaning in suffering. Suffering is an ineradicable part of life, even as fate and death. Without suffering and death human life cannot be complete.

The way in which a man accepts his fate and all the suffering it entails, the way in which he takes up his cross, gives him ample opportunity—even under the most diffcult circumstances—to add a deeper meaning to his life. It may remain brave, dignified and unselfish. Or in the bitter fight for self-preservation he may forget his human dignity and become no more than an animal. Here lies the chance for a man either to make use of or to forgo the opportunities of attaining the moral values that a diffcult situation may afford him. And this decides whether he is worthy of his sufferings or not.

Do not think that these considerations are unworldly and too far removed from real life. It is true that only a few people are capable of reaching such high moral standards. Of the prisoners only a few kept their full inner liberty and obtained those values which their suffering afforded, but even one such example is suffcient proof that man’s inner strength may raise him above his outward fate. Such men are not only in concentration camps. Everywhere man is confronted with fate, with the chance of achieving something through his own suffering.

What does Spinoza say in his Ethics? —“Affectus, qui passio est, desinit esse passio simulatque eius claram et distinctam formamus ideam.” Emotion, which is suffering, ceases to be suffering as soon as we form a clear and precise picture of it.

The prisoner who had lost faith in the future—his future—was doomed. With his loss of belief in the future, he also lost his spiritual hold; he let himself decline and became subject to mental and physical decay. Usually this happened quite suddenly, in the form of a crisis,

Nietzsche’s words, “He who has a why to live for can bear with almost any how,”

What was really needed was a fundamental change in our attitude toward life. We had to learn ourselves and, furthermore, we had to teach the despairing men, that it did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life—daily and hourly. Our answer must consist, not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual.

These tasks, and therefore the meaning of life, differ from man to man, and from moment to moment. Thus it is impossible to define the meaning of life in a general way. Questions about the meaning of life can never be answered by sweeping statements. “Life” does not mean something vague, but something very real and concrete, just as life’s tasks are also very real and concrete. They form man’s destiny, which is different and unique for each individual. No man and no destiny can be compared with any other man or any other destiny. No situation repeats itself, and each situation calls for a different response. Sometimes the situation in which a man finds himself may require him to shape his own fate by action. At other times it is more advantageous for him to make use of an opportunity for contemplation and to realize assets in this way. Sometimes man may be required simply to accept fate, to bear his cross. Every situation is distinguished by its uniqueness, and there is always only one right answer to the problem posed by the situation at hand.

When a man finds that it is his destiny to suffer, he will have to accept his suffering as his task; his single and unique task. He will have to acknowledge the fact that even in suffering he is unique and alone in the universe. No one can relieve him of his suffering or suffer in his place. His unique opportunity lies in the way in which he bears his burden.

poet Rilke to write, “Wie viel ist aufzuleiden!” (How much suffering there is to get through!). Rilke spoke of “getting through suffering” as others would talk of “getting through work.” There was plenty of suffering for us to get through. Therefore, it was necessary to face up to the full amount of suffering, trying to keep moments of weakness and furtive tears to a minimum. But there was no need to be ashamed of tears, for tears bore witness that a man had the greatest of courage, the courage to suffer. Only

This uniqueness and singleness which distinguishes each individual and gives a meaning to his existence has a bearing on creative work as much as it does on human love. When the impossibility of replacing a person is realized, it allows the responsibility which a man has for his existence and its continuance to appear in all its magnitude. A man who becomes conscious of the responsibility he bears toward a human being who affectionately waits for him, or to an unfinished work, will never be able to throw away his life. He knows the “why” for his existence, and will be able to bear almost any “how.”

Nietzsche: “Was mich nicht umbringt, macht mich stärker.” (That which does not kill me, makes me stronger.)

“Was Du erlebst, kann keine Macht der Welt Dir rauben.” (What you have experienced, no power on earth can take from you.) Not only our experiences, but all we have done, whatever great thoughts we may have had, and all we have suffered, all this is not lost, though it is past; we have brought it into being. Having been is also a kind of being, and perhaps the surest kind.

Logotherapy deviates from psychoanalysis insofar as it considers man a being whose main concern consists in fulfilling a meaning, rather than in the mere gratification and satisfaction of drives and instincts, or in merely reconciling the conflicting claims of id, ego and superego, or in the mere adaptation and adjustment to society and environment.

Thus it can be seen that mental health is based on a certain degree of tension, the tension between what one has already achieved and what one still ought to accomplish, or the gap between what one is and what one should become. Such a tension is inherent in the human being and therefore is indispensable to mental well-being. We should not, then, be hesitant about challenging man with a potential meaning for him to fulfill. It is only thus that we evoke his will to meaning from its state of latency.

They are haunted by the experience of their inner emptiness, a void within themselves; they are caught in that situation which I have called the “existential vacuum.”

At the beginning of human history, man lost some of the basic animal instincts in which an animal’s behavior is imbedded and by which it is secured. Such security, like Paradise, is closed to man forever; man has to make choices. In addition to this, however, man has suffered another loss in his more recent development inasmuch as the traditions which buttressed his behavior are now rapidly diminishing. No instinct tells him what he has to do, and no tradition tells him what he ought to do; sometimes he does not even know what he wishes to do. Instead, he either wishes to do what other people do (conformism) or he does what other people wish him to do (totalitarianism).

The existential vacuum manifests itself mainly in a state of boredom. Now we can understand Schopenhauer when he said that mankind was apparently doomed to vacillate eternally between the two extremes of distress and boredom. In actual fact, boredom is now causing, and certainly bringing to psychiatrists, more problems to solve than distress. And these problems are growing increasingly crucial, for progressive automation will probably lead to an enormous increase in the leisure hours available to the average worker. The pity of it is that many of these will not know what to do with all their newly acquired free time.

“Sunday neurosis,” that kind of depression which afflicts people who become aware of the lack of content in their lives when the rush of the busy week is over and the void within themselves becomes manifest. Not a few cases of suicide can be traced back to this existential vacuum. Such widespread phenomena as depression, aggression and addiction are not understandable unless we recognize the existential vacuum underlying them. This is also true of the crises of pensioners and aging people.

Moreover, there are various masks and guises under which the existential vacuum appears. Sometimes the frustrated will to meaning is vicariously compensated for by a will to power, including the most primitive form of the will to power, the will to money. In other cases, the place of frustrated will to meaning is taken by the will to pleasure. That is why existential frustration often eventuates in sexual compensation. We can observe in such cases that the sexual libido becomes rampant in the existential vacuum.

Therefore, logotherapy is indicated not only in noögenic cases, as pointed out above, but also in psychogenic cases, and sometimes even the somatogenic (pseudo-) neuroses. Viewed in this light, a statement once made by Magda B. Arnold is justified: “Every therapy must in some way, no matter how restricted, also be logotherapy.”

For the meaning of life differs from man to man, from day to day and from hour to hour. What matters, therefore, is not the meaning of life in general but rather the specific meaning of a person’s life at a given moment. To put the question in general terms would be comparable to the question posed to a chess champion: “Tell me, Master, what is the best move in the world?” There simply is no such thing as the best or even a good move apart from a particular situation in a game and the particular personality of one’s opponent. The same holds for human existence. One should not search for an abstract meaning of life. Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life to carry out a concrete assignment which demands fulfillment. Therein he cannot be replaced, nor can his life be repeated. Thus, everyone’s task is as unique as is his specific opportunity to implement it.

As each situation in life represents a challenge to man and presents a problem for him to solve, the question of the meaning of life may actually be reversed. Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather he must recognize that it is he who is asked. In a word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible. Thus, logotherapy sees in responsibleness the very essence of human existence.

“Live as if you were living already for the second time and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now!” It seems to me that there is nothing which would stimulate a man’s sense of responsibleness more than this maxim, which invites him to imagine first that the present is past and, second, that the past may yet be changed and amended. Such a precept confronts him with life’s finiteness as well as the finality of what he makes out of both his life and himself.

Logotherapy tries to make the patient fully aware of his own responsibleness; therefore, it must leave to him the option for what, to what, or to whom he understands himself to be responsible. That is why a logotherapist is the least tempted of all psychotherapists to impose value judgments on his patients, for he will never permit the patient to pass to the doctor the responsibility of judging.

It is, therefore, up to the patient to decide whether he should interpret his life task as being responsible to society or to his own conscience. There are people, however, who do not interpret their own lives merely in terms of a task assigned to them but also in terms of the taskmaster who has assigned it to them.

Logotherapy is neither teaching nor preaching. It is as far removed from logical reasoning as it is from moral exhortation. To put it figuratively, the role played by a logotherapist is that of an eye specialist rather than that of a painter. A painter tries to convey to us a picture of the world as he sees it; an ophthalmologist tries to enable us to see the world as it really is. The logotherapist’s role consists of widening and broadening the visual field of the patient so that the whole spectrum of potential meaning becomes conscious and visible to him.

By declaring that man is responsible and must actualize the potential meaning of his life, I wish to stress that the true meaning of life is to be discovered in the world rather than within man or his own psyche, as though it were a closed system. I have termed this constitutive characteristic “the self-transcendence of human existence.” It denotes the fact that being human always points, and is directed, to something, or someone, other than oneself—be it a meaning to fulfill or another human being to encounter. The more one forgets himself—by giving himself to a cause to serve or another person to love—the more human he is and the more he actualizes himself. What is called self-actualization is not an attainable aim at all, for the simple reason that the more one would strive for it, the more he would miss it. In other words, self-actualization is possible only as a side-effect of self- transcendence.

Thus far we have shown that the meaning of life always changes, but that it never ceases to be. According to logotherapy, we can discover this meaning in life in three dif- ferent ways: (1) by creating a work or doing a deed; (2) by experiencing something or encountering someone; and (3) by the attitude we take toward unavoidable suffering. The first, the way of achievement or accomplishment, is quite obvious. The second and third need further elaboration.

The second way of finding a meaning in life is by experiencing something—such as goodness, truth and beauty—by experiencing nature and culture or, last but not least, by experiencing another human being in his very uniqueness—by loving him.

The Meaning of Love

Love is the only way to grasp another human being in the innermost core of his personality. No one can become fully aware of the very essence of another human being unless he loves him. By his love he is enabled to see the essential traits and features in the beloved person; and even more, he sees that which is potential in him, which is not yet actualized but yet ought to be actualized. Furthermore, by his love, the loving person enables the beloved person to actualize these potentialities. By making him aware of what he can be and of what he should become, he makes these potentialities come true.

In logotherapy, love is not interpreted as a mere epiphenomenon3 of sexual drives and instincts in the sense of a so-called sublimation. Love is as primary a phenomenon as sex. Normally, sex is a mode of expression for love. Sex is justified, even sanctified, as soon as, but only as long as, it is a vehicle of love. Thus love is not understood as a mere side-effect of sex; rather, sex is a way of expressing the experience of that ultimate togetherness which is called love.

The third way of finding a meaning in life is by suffering.

The Meaning of Suffering

We must never forget that we may also find meaning in life even when confronted with a hopeless situation, when facing a fate that cannot be changed. For what then matters is to bear witness to the uniquely human potential at its best, which is to transform a personal tragedy into a triumph, to turn one’s predicament into a human achievement. When we are no longer able to change a situation—just think of an incurable disease such as inoperable cancer—we are challenged to change ourselves.

In some way, suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning, such as the meaning of a sacrifice.

It is one of the basic tenets of logotherapy that man’s main concern is not to gain pleasure or to avoid pain but rather to see a meaning in his life. That is why man is even ready to suffer, on the condition, to be sure, that his suffering has a meaning.

no way is suffering necessary to find meaning. I only insist that meaning is possible even in spite of suffering—provided, certainly, that the suffering is unavoidable. If it were avoidable, however, the meaningful thing to do would be to remove its cause, be it psychological, biological or political. To suffer unnecessarily is masochistic rather than heroic.

Edith Weisskopf-Joelson, before her death professor of psychology at the University of Georgia, contended, in her article on logotherapy, that “our current mental-hygiene philosophy stresses the idea that people ought to be happy, that unhappiness is a symptom of maladjustment. Such a value system might be responsible for the fact that the burden of unavoidable unhappiness is increased by unhappiness about being unhappy.”4 And in another paper she expressed the hope that logotherapy “may help counteract certain unhealthy trends in the present-day culture of the United States, where the incurable sufferer is given very little opportunity to be proud of his suffering and to consider it ennobling rather than degrading” so that “he is not only unhappy, but also ashamed of being unhappy.”5

There are situations in which one is cut off from the opportunity to do one’s work or to enjoy one’s life; but what never can be ruled out is the unavoidability of suffering. In accepting this challenge to suffer bravely, life has a meaning up to the last moment, and it retains this meaning literally to the end. In other words, life’s meaning is an unconditional one, for it even includes the potential meaning of unavoidable suffering.

Their question was, “Will we survive the camp? For, if not, all this suffering has no meaning.” The question which beset me was, “Has all this suffering, this dying around us, a meaning? For, if not, then ultimately there is no meaning to survival; for a life whose meaning depends upon such a happenstance—as whether one escapes or not—ultimately would not be worth living at all.”

Unlocking Gcash GCredit!

Unlocking Gcash GCredit!

Yeah, I'm tired of applying for new credit cards, for now. The first two credit cards I applied online were Citibank then BPI. I preferred Citibank however I was declined through text message. While up until now, I didn't get an answer from BPI.

Recently, a friend and coworker was kind enough to share that she is also applying for a Metrobank credit card. She handed me an application form which I've filled out and also attached a photocopy of a valid ID and my company ID. After a week or less, I got a message from their credit card staff that I was unfortunately declined but they were offering a secured credit card.

I was actually expecting that I would be declined as banks do not favor people who have no credit history and those who have bad credit history. I belong to the former, so there you go.

My Plan B was to take a secured credit card way back. But I'm still contemplating if ever I'm going to take this route.

Anyway, speaking of credit. You may be familiar with Gcash Gcredit. I was interested in trying it out and from the initial research that I did, I found out that I need to have at least a Gscore of 600. Mine was currently at 531. Luckily, I did another search and it wasn't necessary as long as you can see the UNLOCK GCREDIT button. Fill up the application form and then you're done! I was surprised to receive an SMS notification right away that my Gcredit application has been approved and they are giving me a Total Credit Limit of 2,000 pesos. Woohoo!

Port Finds!

Port Finds!

After a couple of years, I was able to go back to the port for our sea food needs since the pandemic started. Oh how I missed the feeling of experiencing this moment again!

There is a fish vendor that goes in the village that we're residing in. Her prices for what she is selling is almost doubled (the price you have to pay for convenience) but in fairness to her, the fish were always fresh. Yesterday I had an idea why not go to the source as we can definitely save a lot of money without compromising the quantity. Since the COVID-19 cases is now lower, we can finally go the port and I invited my mother to tag along. The port was just 3 rides from the village. However, you have to be there at least before the sun rises. Going there at 5 am is very late, take it from me.

Anyway, there was no tricycle so we walked outside the village and then rode a jeepney. Afterwards, we rode a padyak which was 20 pesos each person. But if you opt to walk, you can. Do not forget to wear your boots as the place has lots of mud puddles. Be prepared, be agile and be alert specially with your belongings as there will be a huge number of people expected to be here. There is also a huge possibility that there will be pickpockets. And so again, mind your belongings and bring only what is necessary. We didn't bring our phones and dressed casually. In the port, you can see that some people are pulling their batya here and there. Some are using pails or balde while others are using ice chest coolers. This place is not for the people with perfectionistic tendencies. Be forewarned, some people do not properly wear their face masks while I saw some people that are smoking too. That's why it took us a long time to go back here. The discount that you might save is not worth it for the hefty price you'd pay once you have been infected and hospitalized.

The place had improved since I last saw it. One tip that I could give you is have your budget set before going there. Because there are a huge number of options that is very festive to the eyes, you might be tempted to buy more or out of your list (if you happen to have one). I was aiming to spend only 1000 pesos and had additional 500 in my pocket just in case, but lo and behold, I spent 1500 php or more. But in fairness, the 1500 php is also inclusive of 1 tray of eggs (200 pesos/tray), 2 pieces of tofu worth 90 pesos, slice of kalabasa for 20 pesos, 2 tangkay of alugbati for 20 pesos, 1 tangkay of pechay for 10 pesos. 2 tangkay of kangkong for 20 pesos. Liver with balunbalunan worth 44 pesos. We also had purchased 2 servings of palabok for 50 pesos and 1 small pack (5 pieces) of puto calasiao with gata for 25 pesos. 10 pesos for two small already peeled carrots.

In you're curious, I'll show you pictures of some of the things that we bought this morning:

  • Suso - 1/2 of a big can for 50 pesos: 100/can. My mom went to another stall outside the port and asked how much for the tahong: 100 pesos for 1 big can. We didn't buy as it is pricier.

  • Sorry but I can't distinguish the fish in the upper part; the fish we bought is 3 pieces for 130 pesos/1 kilogram. Are these two tambakol?
  • The sliced one is 270 pesos and it was 1 whole medium sized fish. It was more that 1 kilogram. 240 pesos per kilogram The fish in the lower part of the picture was yellow fin, I think. Hehe.

  • The shrimps are 200 pesos for a kilogram. we plan to use these for stir fry. If you're aiming for a small to medium sized shrimps intended for tempura like: I saw signages and they sell it around 480 pesos and up for a kilogram.

  • My co-worker and I were just talking recently about the type of seaweeds and she had mentioned Guso in Bisaya. I happened to see one today so I asked my mother if we could buy them. She mentioned to pour hot water in it so it would soften. The sea grapes that I've had before was soft already so you will only thoroughly wash it with water and then you're good to go with the vinegar. Good thing, the vendor agreed that we could have these halved. This is 50 pesos. This costs 100pesos/kilogram.

  • Alamang is 90 pesos/kilogram but the vendor agreed to less if we are going to take all in the tray that he pointed out. We agreed and we were able to get this for 80 pesos. This is almost 1 kilogram.

  • Tilapia is 90 pesos per kilogram. Not bad for 3 medium sized fish.

  • These two medium size Bangus costs around 160 pesos - 1 kilogram. You can choose for a small size for 140 pesos or a bigger one for 180 pesos per kilo.

My renewed passport is here!

My renewed passport is here!

I received a call from the courier service during work and was surprised that my passport is being delivered to our apartment. However, since my mother has no authorization letter, they can't release it. I kind of argued that I didn't gave my authorization letter yet since I was expecting my passport to be delivered some time within the 3rd week of February. Good thing that the delivery man made a way and gave my mother my passport. Yahoo!!

Renewing your Philippine passport this 2022? DFA Philippine passport renewal experience 2022

Renewing your Philippine passport this 2022? DFA Philippine passport renewal experience 2022

Okay, I don't know if there is already posted here online regarding how to renew your Philippine passport but here is my recent experience.

First thing you need to do is to secure your appointment slot at the DFA website. I got mine and my mom here at https://www.passport.gov.ph/appointment. I was lucky enough to get ours last December 2021 for this February slot. Actually, I was surprised to see available slots as I've been getting a lot of feedbacks that securing a slot even takes 2-3 months. Good thing that I followed the tip that I got from my brother which is to check the website from time to time as they are sometimes opening up slots. As you are filling up the details in the website, you'll see that 950 pesos is the regular processing fee and if you want it to be delivered to you, you have the option to pay for the courier which is 150 pesos via Air21. And because I decided to do my payment through online so that there will be no hassle in having to line to the cashier, there is a processing fee. The total amount that I paid for my passport renewal is 1150 pesos through Gcash and this is from regular processing only.

Before your scheduled appointment, be sure to print the document that will be sent to your e-mail bearing your appointment and application details in an A4 paper. One indication that you have successfully secured an appointment slot in DFA is to get a confirmation e-mail. You can check the validity of your slot through View Appointment  - https://www.passport.gov.ph/appointment/view where you have to input your Appointment Code and e-mail address.

The things you needed to bring on the day of your appointment will depend on the DFA website https://consular.dfa.gov.ph/services/passport/requirements/passport-adult/adult-renewal-epassport  so be sure check. Here is what we brought:

  1. Application details sent to your email from DFA printed in A4 paper (we printed 2 copies each just to be sure)
  2. Valid Identification card - Previous passport will suffice
  3. Photocopy of the valid identification card

You have to be 15-30 minutes earlier than your appointment time but even though you're earlier than that, fret not as they will still accommodate you. I got there at DFA Aseana at 09:30 am and went to Gate 3, presented to the guard the application form and then upon entry done a temperature check. I was directed to the left side entrance where upon entry presented my valid Id and form and put my bag in a X-ray baggage machine . Next is that on the left upon entry, you line in the area where they will confirm your appointment details. They scan the barcode in the paper and then I was asked to take of my mask for a brief time (I asked my mom if she experienced it but she wasn't asked) probably just to check if you are really the person in the previous passport that I presented. Next step is to go to the exit door past the releasing section then turn left where you'll pass through the comfort rooms and snack bar.  Go through the door entrance in front of the snack bar.

Step 1 is on the ground floor where there will be personal interview and validation. If there are changes that are needed to be corrected, be sure to tell the interviewer. I told that my place of birth was incorrect on the application form so she corrected it. After that, I was then directed to go to the 2nd floor for picture taking/data capturing. I went to the 2nd floor and lined up in the booth for the queue number. I presented the application form and was given a number that will show in the tv screen. I think that the turn around was okay (10-15 minutes) as I was number 70 and when I sat down I saw that the recent number they were catering was at number 59. After I'm done, I went outside the door to inquire regarding the delivery services. I went in line because I do not know where I could ask regarding delivery. When I was the 18th person to be catered, a personnel announced suddenly "Yung mga nagbayad na online, hindi na po kayo pipila dito sa delivery service". And so I verified with him and he said that Air21 will deliver it to the address. I double checked with my mom and she said that the personnel in the data capturing already told her that everything is done and the passport will be delivered to the address.

Without taking the time that I lost because I lined up in the delivery/courier area, it took me less than 30 minutes to finish the whole process. Overall, my renewal experience was a breeze. There will be available personnel who'll assist you so if you are in doubt, don't be shy to ask around.

Hope this helps!
