 Let's Talk About Sleep Hygiene!


We all heard the news that recently there has been a resurgence in COVID-19 cases in the Philippines and it could also be due to the mass gatherings of families during the holidays. Now is the time that we talk about sleep hygiene as better sleep is essential for an optimal immune system.


Yes, if there is personal hygiene, there is also a thing called sleep hygiene. Good sleep hygiene refers to the habits that we have that promote restful sleep. Almost all the living things on Earth need to sleep in order to recuperate.  These are the tips that you can do to improve your sleep hygiene:


  1. Do set a regular time for sleeping and waking time. Make it a habit to abide by it every time. This helps your body to set. When you do this, eventually your body will let you wake up on your own without the need for an alarm clock!
  2. Tone down the use of electronic gadgets.
  3. Drink warm milk.
  4. Take a warm bath.
  5. Refrain from consuming anything with caffeine such as coffee, tea, soda.
  6. Set your mind that you are going to sleep now and you'll think of the things what bothers you tomorrow.
  7. Play relaxing music on the background.
  8. Make sure the bedroom you're in is dim.
  9. Lay in a clean and comfortable bed.
  10. Use aroma diffuser or humidifier with aroma diffuser.
  11. Avoid staying up late as much as you can. I've read in a book that staying up late is a big no-no. I admit that I was a habitual taker of this mantra. But I was wrong. No amount of sleep will compensate for the lack of sleep that you did.
