Animal Bites with no budget for Vaccination? San Lazaro Bite Center for a Low Cost Anti-rabies Vaccine
Animal Bites with no budget for vaccination? San Lazaro Bite Center for Low Cost Anti-rabies Vaccines
With the surging prices of commodities today in the Philippines, health is definitely wealth. Anti-rabies vaccines can be costly. And as a matter of fact, a dose of Verorab which is an anti-rabies vaccine can cost you around 2200 Php in a private clinic.
I recently resigned from my work which is quite unfortunate because by the time I was rendering, I was bitten by our dog. According to the company's clinic for employees, I'll be needing 3 doses since my last shot of anti-rabies vaccine was more than 10 years ago (I was bitten by a cat in the heel). I'm already done with my 2 doses of anti-rabies (Verorab) and anti-tetanus shot. My problem was the last dose because day 21/28 won't be covered anymore since I won't be considered an employee at that time.
I thought that I would try San Lazaro Hospital for the last dose, just in case they would allow it. This is the place where I got my anti-rabies vaccine 10 years ago for a minimal amount. If you are from the South, you can go there by taking LRT 1 - Baclaran Station and drop off at LRT Bambang then you can walk up to Quiricada Street or after you arrived at LRT Bambang Station, take a jeep bound to Tayuman and ask the driver to drop you off at Quiricada Street. The San Lazaro Fire Station is just beside the Quiricada Street.
Walk along the Quiricada Street (from the San Lazaro Fire Station) and you'll see the San Lazaro Hospital entrance. Be sure to bring your own face shield as the face shield outside costs around 20 pesos a piece! Face shields are required inside the San Lazaro's Bite Center premises.
Approach the person near the 3rd entrance from the hospital gate and if you are a new patient, you'll be asked to fill out a form then your weight will be taken. Then, after filling up the form, they will give you a queue number for the encoding. You will wait until your queue number appears and then you'll go to the counter for the encoding of data. Give the form to the person in the counter and the personnel will give you another printed form. The next step is that you will wait for your queue number in the waiting area (doctor's consultation/assessment). The waiting area for new patients and for follow up are separated so ask away if you must. I've talked to other patients as I was confused where to next after the encoding. They told me that the personnel in the Step 1 (3rd entrance) will give another number but in my case, the number that I got from the encoding would be the same for the doctor's consultation.
There weren't many patients fortunately, and it took me I think 30-60 minutes before I was seen by the doctor. She explained that I had the option to go back to the company's hospital to have my last dose of Verorab vaccine as they don't have the same brand of vaccine or I'll restart getting the anti-rabies shots with them for four doses. So I'll guess, I'll need to shell out money for the last dose. :'(
Anyway, I think people are buying the vaccines because I happen to hear a personnel telling another patient if they had paid for the ERIG vaccine and this is due to the long line of patients with prescription going to the cashier. It's just sad to know that it reverted back to paying even for a minimal amount because I remembered my aunt telling us during a random conversation that my cousin who got bitten by his ex-girlfriend's dog went to San Lazaro (during Duterte's administration) and he only paid for the syringe. The vaccines at that time were free.
And oh, before I forget, please arrive early as 6 am if you can. Better be safe than sorry as they only have a limited number of patients catered.

Divisoria: The Mecca of Low Finds
Divisoria: The Mecca of Low Finds
You might probably (or probably not) know this but Divisoria is the mecca of low finds. When you need to buy something and you're in a tight budget, Divisoria is one of the places that comes to mind when you're in Metro Manila or somewhere near Manila.
When we are going to Divisoria, two of that essentials that goes into our list is to include fruits and vegetables. Vegetables are more cheaper at Sto. Cristo Street. It is the street near Jollibee Sto Cristo.
| The highlighted part are the streets where vegetables are sold |
Basic commodities that we use like garlic and onions are a must. I discovered that these items lasts more than the ones bought in your nearest palengke. I'm guessing that the palengke vegetable finds are already a month old or two. What's good about it is that you won't limit yourself and feel bad on splurging a little bit more on those onions that will make your dish more flavorful especially now that the prices of almost all goods had skyrocketed. The onion price today are too steep but we are able to get it at 180 pesos per kilogram which we usually got at around 100-110 pesos. But we're still okay with that because it would be almost twice or thrice the price per kilogram in the supermarket.
However, if you want the freshest produce of vegetables there is, you can try out your luck along Recto Avenue during the night to dawn market which is probably 6 pm onwards. Though some vendors will sell you at a kilogram minimum, business owners usually purchase by bundles and a bundle is around 10 kilograms or more.
When it comes to fruits, if you are going to buy on retail, I would recommend the fruit stall near 168 mall. It is the first stall in the creek that you'll see if you're coming from Juan Luna Street. They are my to-go to for my fruit needs (apples and pears mostly) these couple of years whenever I go to Divisoria. They might command for a higher price that other stalls but the fruits they sell are in good shape and sweet so I think that in my end it's not bad at all.
There are also fruit stalls in the Carmen Planas Street but I honestly don't buy there as I find it more pricier and of lesser quality. Though if you want to buy in bulk which is per box, you can wait until 6 pm onwards near Divisoria Mall. Fruit vendors who sell wholesale (per box) usually set up during the evening. I remembered an instance pre-pandemic where my sister and I happened to experience staying there and saw them setting up. At that time, we didn't know these. We were curious so we asked a seller, he said that a box is around 1500 pesos. We actually wanted to purchase a box but then we discussed how will we be able to bring it home as we only rely on UV express? And we're two ladies. The seller chuckled at our amusing discussion.
Anyway, just be careful around Divisoria. It's -ber months already and expect that the crimes will rise. Dress simply as not to attract attention to pick pockets. Enjoy your shopping at Divisoria and hope this helps!

Cooking recipe: My easy to make Kangkong Stir-fry
Cooking recipe: My easy to make Kangkong Stir-fry
They say that when you are an adult, one thing that is essential in life is to have a one specific meal that you can cook well.
And when it comes to cooking, I am confident to say that I can make a good stir-fry. So I'm sharing my own recipe of Kangkong Stir-fry which you can make for probably around 10-20 minutes. It is easy to make, economical and is approximately good for 3-4 persons. It's a perfect viand for this hard times due to very high inflation and thus high cost of goods in the market.
Ingredients:
- 1 big bunch of kangkong (20-30 stalks), cleaned and portioned
- 2-3 tablespoons of oil
- 1 whole head of garlic, chopped
- magic sarap seasoning
- Mama Sita's oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- In a wok, fry the chopped garlic with the oil in a medium heat-low heat until golden brown. Take out the garlic once cooked.
- Cook and the kangkong until the color becomes bright green. Add a dash of the Magic sarap seasoning. Set the fire into low setting. Add the oyster sauce and toss around until well coated. Add half of the toasted garlic and then mix. Add the butter on top and distribute until melted. Simmer for around 5 minutes.
- Add the remaining toasted garlic. Enjoy!

Young, Wild (insert line) and Free
Young, Wild (insert line) and Free
I miss my younger self. If I could turn back time, it would be specifically back when I was in elementary to high school. In that phase of my life, I hadn't had a clue on what will things will turn out to be though I was keen on finishing my studies as my end goal despite what was happening. And I did. I thought I was bolder at that time. I was trying out things which are out of my comfort zone. I tried auditioning for a singing audition and my voice cracked out of nervousness. I was embarrassed but I tried again in the next 3 years but did not qualify. I tried joining a sportsfest pageant and did not win. But whatever the results turned out to be, I didn't regret that I did. When I looked back, I just wished I was a little bit more confident.
I had this tendency to hold back myself. I know that. It was then an acquaintance who brought it up during a random conversation why I was holding back myself. Then I pondered on it. Then I later realized why. Because I need to have that safe space where I wouldn't worry. How could I break away and build up on my self-esteem when I felt that all I had growing up was a constant NO to things? It was the thing which I was constantly accustomed to, a NO to almost all things.
I also had my fair share of disappointments on people. Sometimes the greatest dissatisfaction will be in the hands of the teachers you respected or parents or someone that you idolized. I want to blame someone so badly but then I've came to realize that they are still human after all. When you grow up, you'll see that the one you're idolizing isn't perfect and has his demons to conquer every single day. You have your problems, and they are yours alone to conquer.
If I'm not as bold as my younger self, hopefully in the next few years I'll emerge as someone bolder. Embarking a new journey, I don't know what the future will bring but, BRING IT ON!

Toni & Sergio's Restaurant Food Experience
Toni & Sergio's Restaurant Food Experience
In order to change the tradition during our birthdays because usually our mom would just cook pancit or spaghetti whenever we have out birthdays, we asked our mother where should we plan to go. My mom suggested that she wants to visit the Venice Grand Canal in Taguig. And so we went there and then our family decided to dine in to Toni & Sergio restaurant for my mom and sister's birthday treat.
We went there at around 5 pm on a Sunday which I think was just the right time since there were few customers and we were able to get an outdoor table spot. It was unfortunate though that after some time after we ordered, it suddenly rained! However, I would still recommend that you try out this place if you want to splurge out a little for special occasions. I could say that they offer good food. Like most restaurants, they have a 10% service charge.
Anyway, these are the food in their menu that we ordered:
First on the list that arrived in our table is the Truffle cream pizza that costs around 460 pesos. It has the usual 8 slices. What I like about their pizza is that it isn't oily and has a lightly seasoned umami taste when you eat it. It is a cream pizza with truffle, mozzarella and egg.
Next that was served to us was the Paella Dela Casa along with the Seafood pasta and the Pork Ribs Barbeque.
The Paella Dela Casa costs around 620 pesos and was meant to be good for 3 but we were four and we weren't able to finish it all. This one is my current favorite among the paella dishes that I've eaten since the flavor is not overpowering. This paella has prawns, mussels, clams, chicken, chorizo and black olives.
Their Seafood Pasta costs around 435 pesos and we requested to have it in olive oil. If you prefer the red sauce, you can also make a request. This is good for 1-2 serving. It comes with a toasted bread.
Last but not the least was the Pork Ribs BBQ which was the bomb. We definitely love this! The Toni and Sergio specialty bbq pork ribs comes with mashed potato (which was good and fluffy) and salad. I don't remember how much we paid for it because they charge per 100 gram but according to their menu 750 pesos for a half and 1350 pesos for a whole piece. The meat was super soft and melt in the mouth.
For our drinks we ordered a pitcher of iced tea and then later on ordered a beer for my brother and sangria for my sister and mom. They currently have a promo of 300 pesos for 2 glasses of sangria.
I didn't order anything because I was craving for coffee so we went to Tim Hortons after our dinner.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience and we would go back to try out their other food on their menu.

How to scan QR code using your Samsung phone from your Desktop
How to scan QR code using your Samsung phone from your Desktop
Have you encountered this problem?
If yes, fret not! I happened to test out a solution and it worked! I was using the duty phone and the QR code doesn't seem to scan as the code is not clear when you try to put the camera's phone directly to the QR code.
Can you guess how I did it?
*drum roll please*
The solution that I did is that you should flash a light in front of your phone.

Happy -Ber Month!
Happy -Ber Month!
Today is September 1st and in the Filipino culture, it marks the start of the countdown till Christmas. It's basically Christmas time because we would be able to hear the songs of the iconic "Father of Christmas music", (though I heard he doesn't want to be called by it) Jose Mari Chan at Mariah Carey's Christmas songs in the malls.
